The Pacific Islands
Missionaries swept through the Pacific Islands in the 1800s. Now, if you look up the religious demographics, you’ll see some of the most Christian nations in the world. The full story is a little more complicated than what the statistics tell you. The islands are heavily churched but just as heavily saturated with cults, Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, the prosperity gospel, cultural nominalism, and syncretism. The Island to Island Partnership was formed in 2018 with two denominations in Australia, one in New Zealand, along with MTW missionaries serving in the region with the goal of bringing gospel revitalization into the islands.
